Hot springs
Volcanically heated water reaches La Fortuna two ways: paid resorts like Tabacón, Baldi and Ecotermales with landscaped pools and swim-up bars, and the free public springs along the Río Chollín, unsupervised and with no lockers or changing rooms. Bag theft is common at the free springs, so paid resorts are the safer choice for anything left unattended.
