Things to do in Bijagua

Bijagua is the quieter base for the north side of Río Celeste, a village of a few thousand people about 45 to 60 minutes from the Tenorio ranger station and roughly 1 hour 30 minutes to 2 hours from La Fortuna by road.

It sits at the foot of the Tenorio and Miravalles volcanoes, and it is the place most sloth-refuge tours use as their base rather than La Fortuna itself.

There is no lava to see anywhere near here and no beach: this is a farming and forest-lodge district, with fewer restaurants and a shorter dinner window than La Fortuna, so booking accommodation ahead matters more in the December to April dry season. It also sits inside the Maleku indigenous territory's broader area, with Guatuso and Upala further north.
