Things to do at La Fortuna Waterfall
La Fortuna Waterfall (Catarata Río Fortuna) drops about 70 metres into a forested canyon a short drive from town. Entry is managed by ADIFORT, the local community association, and costs roughly 18-22 USD per adult.
From the car park, a paved and stepped path descends around 500 steps to the canyon floor - and every one of those steps has to be climbed back up, which takes most visitors 20 to 30 minutes at an unhurried pace. The waterfall itself is open daily, typically from early morning to mid-afternoon.
Swimming is possible, but only in the calmer pool downstream: the current directly beneath the falls is strong enough to be dangerous, and lifeguards do not patrol the area, so treat the warning signs as more than decoration.
