Things to do in Tenorio Volcano National Park

Tenorio Volcano National Park was created in 1995 and covers roughly 180 square kilometres of forest around the volcano, about 1 hour 30 minutes to 2 hours by road from La Fortuna.

Entry runs on a reservation system through SINAC's online booking site, and the number of visitors allowed in each day is capped, so a same-day walk-up is not guaranteed, especially in the December-to-April dry season.

Trail access closes in the mid-afternoon regardless of your entry time, which shortens the window more than most visitors expect. Bring your printed or digital SINAC ticket and cash for the park's small entrance building, since this is not a drop-in attraction.
