Things to do in Sarapiquí

Sarapiquí sits about 2 hours east of La Fortuna, where the northern lowlands fold into the Central Valley and the forest turns noticeably wetter and lower-lying. This is rainforest country rather than volcano country: boat trips on the Sarapiquí river, canopy tours, and wildlife walks that see far fewer visitors than the Arenal circuit.

Day-trip operators sometimes pitch Sarapiquí as an easy add-on from La Fortuna, but the drive plus the shift in ecosystem make it a poor fit for a rushed afternoon.

A guided river float typically runs 45-90 minutes and costs around 20-35 USD per person; rain gear is worth packing whatever the season, since this region stays humid year-round.
